There's a great article at Cornell University about design student Olivia Ong who has made some major advances in fashion technology by creating garments that can help keep your body healthy. Yes that's right. In the future what you wear may stop you from having to take any over the counter cold meds! Working in collaboration with Cornell fiber scientists, two of her garments were treated with metallic nanoparticles thus enabling a dress that prevents colds and the flu (plus it doesn't need to be washed), as well as a jacket that destroys noxious gases and protects the person from smog and air pollution.
These hip outfits are a part of her fashion line called "Glitterati" and if you never knew about nanotechnology, you'd still look hip and cute.
Upon closer inspection of the fabric, you can see how the cotton fibers are covered with paladium nanoparticle coating. Who knows yet what the side effects will be but with designers like Olivia Ong, fashion technology may be moving closer in the right direction and nanotechnology will become the latest trend.
