Best Dressed at the Oscars

Oscars Marioncotillard
My first reaction upon seeing the scaly scalloped mermaid-style dress by Jean-Paul Gaultier on French actress Marion Cotillard was that I didn't like it. But then if you notice, she's absolutely stunning! The dress fits her perfectly and she stands out from the crowd. She's my vote for overall best dressed at the Oscars. Why? That's cuz the other actressess pretty much look the same o' Hollywood. Rene Zellweger, Hillary Swank, Cameron Diaz -- they just stand there in their staged, overly-used poses. Even little Miley Cyrus was spewing out cliches as she did her over the shoulder pose in her Valentino dress. Sigh... So there I've said it. I was tired of all the cheesiness. I've rated my Best Dressed for the Oscars based on how their personality shown through what they wore. And isn't that what style's all about?

Oscars Katherineheigel
A lot of actressses wore red Oscar night but Katherine Heigel was the best out of all of them. She looked amazing in her red over the shoulder red Escada dress because she came off like a regular gal. I was actually a bit nervous for her when she came on stage because she started her presentation by saying how nervous she was.

Oscars Jennifergarner
Jennifer Garner who looked absolutely glamorous in her Oscar De La Renta gown with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels (The necklace and the bangles are beautiful!). Yet she still had that honest girl next door charm as talked to Ryan Seacrest on E! She also handled the whole Gary Busey bizarre interruption pretty well.

Oscars Nicolekidman
A pregnant Nicole Kidman went simple in her gown but didn't skimp on jewels adorning the diamond necklace in layers of layers in the front and the back. Just stunning!

Oscars Johnnydepp
Also is it just me or does Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis look exactly the same each year? They are ageless!

I love Nicole Kidman's Diamond necklace. I love how the diamonds create layers and layers of sparkly goodness.

I really liked Marion's dress too - although I wasn't sure when I saw the photos. When I saw it on her, I LOVED it on TV. I also thought that Katherine Heigl's dress was fabulous and she looked stunning. The one-shoulder dress was so popular. I just picked up a darling Madison Marcus dress that I read about at shopgoldyn.com It's super cute.

Overall, I thought this year was disappointing. But I loved Heidi Klum's dress. And for a good cause. What a knockout!

Also, Keri Russell. That's a hard color to pull off, but she looked radiant.

Oscar night is one of my favourite nights of the year because I get to channel my repressed inner fashion designer/celebrity gossip magazine columnist and admire all the wonderful dresses.

I agree that Cotillard's dress was interesting, but the highlight for me was her hairstyle. She looked stunning, and authentically happy.

My pick of the dresses was George Clooney's date - Sarah Larson. I think it was perfect considering that George was supposed to be the focus of attention and that he always looks awesome in a tux.

I also liked Jennifer Garner (another nice hairstyle), Keri Russell and Ellen Page (simple but not plain and drawing attention to her cute face).

For the men, Javier Bardem looked very cool (I loved the jacket), Patrick Dempsey was classic (even though I'm not a McDreamy fan) and Josh Brolin was one of the few straight neckties that I liked. Daniel Day Lewis and Phillip Seymour Hoffman were a big bowl of wrong. I'm not so sure about Viggo Mortensen. It was weir d, but the guy was nominated for having a 5 minute naked fight to the death in a Russian bathhouse, so....

I loved marion's dress too! The minute I saw it I fell in love because it was so different! And when she won I was extremely happy. She looked gorgeous up there.
