I've spent many years interviewing inspirational artisans who create beautiful handmade things. It's one of my favorite things to do and I'm bringing in this element more on Coquette this fall. For my first interview, I had the exciting opportunity to talk to jewelry designer Emily Wheat Maynard of Elva Fields. She is the creative genius and business person behind her exquisite Kentucky-based jewelry line. Her pieces are bold, colorful and make the perfect fashion statement!
As iPads and tablets start to become our on-the-go laptop replacements, I love how they are being integrated into handbag designs. First I noted on Proenza Schouler's chic PS1iPad clutch last week. Today, I stumbled upon Diane von Furstenberg's Harper Connect Leather Daybag ($695 at DVF.com) while browsing her Fall 2011 Lookbook. The Harper bag comes in black and luggage and looks like a stylish vintage handbag with it's large buckle and chain-link handle. What I love best about the bag is the great techy-thinking it incorporated into the design. Instead of having to take out your iPad from the inside pocket, all you have to do is pull down the zippers on the back of the hand bag to start using your digital tablet. Stylish genius that only Diane von Furstenberg could do!
Here is this week's Web Snob with the latest in fashion, beauty, celeb, and lifestyle:
Anya Hindmarch has unleashed yet another covetable clutch to obsess over. Naturally, Bag Snob elects snake over sequin every time (or glitter, for that matter), but our adoration of exotics isn’t the only reason to love this clutch!
We spend so much money on products (isn't it easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of fresh packaging and new releases?), we tend to forget that the tools we use for applying our makeup are just as important, if not more so. That's why every Beauty Snob and makeup junkie should have Claudio Riaz's ultimate collection.
Elizabeth and James designed the best halter top in a marigold color for fall. Angelina Jolie was seen in marigold recently while out to dinner in Beverly Hills.
I frequently visit the Proenza Schouler site just to drool over their bags. (Kinda obsessed over the PS1 Keep All Small and anything PS11.) To my surprise, I came across the new Proenza Schouler iPad Cases ($685) and comes in red, black, and a bright neon color they call Sulphur. I am not a fan of big iPad cases but this one caught my eye. What I love about it is that it actually looks more like a clutch, than anything holding your technology. It's got the iconic PS1 straps that I adore. In the front flap you can hold your personal items like your cellphone, keys, and money. In fact, I could also see this being carried around as a cool roomy day clutch without your iPad in there at all.
Last Thursday, my friend Alice of futuregirl (Twitter @futuregirlcraft) and I had a lovely lunch sitting outside enjoying the sun in Belden Lane. As we were eating, I noticed that Alice's bun was held up by a little stick – in this case a child's chopstick.
I have always been envious going up over girls in school who could tie their hair up in a snap with a mere pencil. So, in true DIY form, I had Alice show me how she created her hair bun with a stick and I am happy to share with all of you this easy tutorial.
DIY Hair Bun with a Stick Tutorial
Step 1: First gather your hair together as if you are going to make a ponytail.
Step 2: Next, twist the long part of the hair around to create a bun.
If you were disappointed you couldn't nab any Missoni for Target items, here's something that may perk you up for the new year. Fashion designer Jason Wu is planning a special limited-edition designer collection with Target featuring womenswear, handbags and scarves, set to launch on Feb. 5, 2012.
I'm actually way more excited for this line than Missoni because Jason Wu's designs over the last few years have embodied style and sophistication. It was none other than First Lady Michelle Obama who helped bring this American designer into the spotlight.
“My collection for Target embodies my signature aesthetic of feminine sophistication, with a mischievous nod to the 1960s,” said Jason Wu. “I’ve had an incredible experience partnering with Target and I am looking forward to bringing these affordable designs to women across the country.”

Ranging in price from $19.99 to $59.99 for apparel and $19.99 to $49.99 for handbags and scarves, Jason Wu for Target will be available Feb. 5 through March 6, 2012 at most Target stores and Target.com.
