One of my favorite people on Twitter, DKNY PR Girl will be hosting a special live chat room event featuring the DKNY Spring 2011 show on BigLive.com at 10pm EST/ 7pm PST. If you read my previous fashion reviews you know that the DKNY spring show (post here) was my absolute fav! (Scarves, ruffles, and bows! Love, love, and love! ) I'll be there so don't miss this. Plus DKNY PR Girl will unveil a special VIP discount for the new spring season!
Jean-Paul Gaultier one of my favorite fashion designers took Hermes' classic bags and took them in a fun direction last week for Hermès' Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Show at Paris Fashion Week. Sure there were clothes but what are better than Hermès bags? Pictured above is a tiny Birkin worn on a wrist cuff and a belt bag worn as a tube top. So maybe the tiny Birkin will be more affordable for the rest of us? A girl can dream.
Here's how those belt bags should be worn and a drool-worthy Hermès clutch in avocado green.
One of the most amazing sights? This transparent alligator Kelly bag where you can see a mini Birkin inside. Just so, so cute!
Chanel's Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Show at Paris Fashion Week featured a live orchestra in the Grand Palais. The show looked grand indeed with a return of French model Ines de la Fressange who was Karl Lagerfeld's muse in the 80's and was the first model back then to sign an exclusive modeling contract with a haute couture fashion house. At 52 today, she's still stylish and dazzling and is considered one of the chicest women in Paris. Pictured above at right is one of her ad campaigns from the 80's. You can catch a short interview with her in Behind the Scenes video at the bottom.
Ines and Karl come together again!
Below are videos of the entire Chanel Fashion Show (Part 1, Part 2, and Behind the Scenes):
Think sophisticated lady-like looks with dresses and skirts below the knee and fabulous pant suits. Bringing in a pop of color, Tory chose bright orange and shimmery gold (even in pants!) to be accent marks in some of her looks. Colorful handbags matched each outfit with my favorite bag being the black and cream tote.
Here are some of my favorite looks from the collection:
I'm super excited that my friend, fashion designer (and former Project Runway contestant) Diana Eng will be presenting her technology fashion show at the World Maker Faire happening in Queens, NY on September 25, 2010 at 2pm. Diana Eng utilizes math, science, and technology to create whimsical designs. She is inspired by fairytales, sea creatures, and tea parties, and her designs are made possible by technologies such as deployable structures, microcontrollers, and number patterns.
She's an amazing designer and to see her do a runway show at the same location as where the World's Fair used to be is pretty cool! Don't miss the show. Fashion press can email the address in the invite above and everyone else should buy a ticket to Maker Faire where you can enjoy some great DIY activities and the Bust Craftacular fair all weekend!
Patterns and prints took center stage at the Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2011 show. You can watch the full show above and go behind the scenes with Diane herself.
What surprised me about the fashion show was how I much I loved all the handbags that came down the runway. From a modern "fanny pack" to big bags with tassels. I loved how they all went seamlessly together with each outfit.
Here are some of my favorite looks from the collection:
I was lucky to get to attend the Vivienne Tam fashion show in the theater at Lincoln Center on Saturday. Natalie and I went last year (post here) and we loved her flowy chiffon butterfly dresses. Vivienne has a beautiful aesthetic: feminine and fun. Watch the video above for highlights of the runway show and behind the scenes footage.
The Spring/Summer 2011 collection was titled Silk Road and certainly had Asian influences (fabrics, cuts, lace and batik patterns - a theme that still runs strong for spring).
There were many flowy patterned dresses, apron shorts and skirts and adorable shorts with bows. Vivienne Tam continues her boho chic style with shots of color and plenty of patterns.
Sexy, flowy dresses seem to be a signature of Vivienne Tam's. I love the details in each of these dresses.
This raspberry batik dress is one of my favorites. I could totally see myself wearing it to brunch on a Sunday with sandals or dressing it up with heels for drinks out on a warm summer night. Then for a perfect Saturday lounging around, I'd wear the stylish tunic and short set (at right) which looks so perfect for summer.
Finally, it isn't a fashion show if you aren't checking out who's in the front row. I spotted Serena Williams, Denise Richards and Kendra Wilkinson (who all created a fierce paparazzi
furor).
Ruffles, Bows, and Scarves - Oh My! Donna Karen redefines classic, feminine American style with her DKNY S/S 2011 Fashion Show. Watch the full runway show above featuring behind-the-scenes footage with Donna Karan herself right after the show.
Leave it to Donna Karan for capturing the Parisian style of wearing scarves I was talking about last month (post here), but couldn't really find a picture of. When I saw the first models walking down the runway, I thought to myself, THIS IS IT! All the clothes are so classic, yet made fresh and feminine with these accents: bow belts, ruffles, scarves, and red pumps tied up with black bows. I can actually see myself wearing these clothes and living in them daily. Get on the scarf trend early America and try styling yourself some of these looks this fall.
Here are my favorite looks which I could see myself living in:
On Thursday morning, I took the fashion line (aka the
1 subway) uptown to Lincoln Center for the first show at New York Fashion Week. Project Runway!
I spotted Joe Zee from Elle, Nigel Barker photographer & judge on America's Next Model and Joana Coles from Marie Claire as I walked through the
elegant plaza of one of New York’s cultural icons.I’ve been a fan of Project Runway since the first season. I love that they show the process of designing and creating clothes. They always
have a cast of characters designing too.
Seated just across from me in the front row were Betsey Johnson, Harvey Weinstein
and the Project Runway judges: Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia and Guest
Judge Jessica Simpson. No sighting of Tim Gunn sadly. Since the show hasn't gone too far in eliminating people, ten designers showed their collections! They were: Michael D, Valerie, Ivy, Chris, Casanova, Michael C, Mondo, Gretchen, April, and Andy.

I loved Andy’s line the most. It felt like a complete
collection. The fabrics, colors, cuts and workmanship were amazing. Each model wore a beautiful silver headpiece to complete the look. The silver dress at left was my fav and I also adored the ruffled chartreuse dress.

From Valerie collection, I thought the colors and cuts of her line overall were great. She had an adorable short turquoise jumper (at left) and I really liked the modern cut of this hot pink dress (at right).
You can watch the video above with highlights of the runway show, courtesy of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
HP is a sponsor of Project Runway where the designer contestants have
been using the HP TouchSmart tm2's to sketch their designs. (See more in
a previous Coquette post here.) Thank you, HP for letting me have a chance to experience the Project Runway fashion show at Lincoln Center. We all received a gift bag with an HP wireless mouse, makeup
from L'Oreal and
Tim Gunn's book Golden
Rules: Life's Little Lessons for Making It Work.
SPOILER ALERT!
Andy, Ivy, Gretchen and Valerie’s parents were all in the
front row directly across from where I was sitting. So I have good reason to think they are the final four. If I had to put money on a winner based on the collections
today, I would say Andy is the clear winner. He also closed the show! I can’t wait to watch the finale to see who wins.
Leave a comment to let us know which designer you think is going to win.
Hello Lovelies! It's Leigh here again covering New York Fashion Week 2010 for Coquette! NYFW kicked off tonight in a big way
at Fashion’s Night Out The Show at Lincoln Center the new home for fashion.A doubledecker bus dropped off models on Columbus Avenue to
begin the show. Gisele led the group of models all clad in Fashion’s Night
Out t-shirts and couture full-length skirts. Gorgeous!
About 171 models strutted down the outdoor runway in the plaza of
Lincoln Center in 470 high-end as well as low-end looks that ranged from Oscar de la Renta to Gap to
Balenciaga to White House Black Market. The clothes were all grouped into Vogue's seven most important fall trends. My fave looks were the 60's era Prada dresses, suits and
circle skirts which were very Mad Men-esque!
All the looks worn tonight will be available for purchase on Vogue.com
tomorrow. Watch a replay of the webcast right now on CBS. You can also see more FNO The Show photos in the slideshow on WWD and candid twitpic photos via @dkny.
Lincoln Center is already turning out to be the perfect runway for fashion!
