The View from the Bay: How live TV can keep you on your toes

The reason it's been hard to post lately on Coquette is all the stuff that is happening in my day job. I promise when I'm back from Chicago after BlogHer things will be back to normal. Last Thursday, I went on the local Bay Area TV show, The View from the Bay to help promote the Stitch N' Pitch event at the SF Giants that is happening tonight. It was my third time on the show and in addition to showing off our recent entries from our Stitch N' Pitch Contest, I showed the hosts how to make fun drink cozies from felt that showed our SF Giants team spirit.

It was a lot of fun to get a chance to experience live TV again and this time, I learned how to improvise and "go with the flow". We realized in the beginning of our segment that one of the scarfs I had set up on the table, must have fallen off while a stage hand was moving it onto the set. Ah, good times. Inside my heart was racing and I had no idea how it was going to magically appear again. Thankfully the hosts, Spencer and Janelle are seasoned pros and just went for it. We had used the scarf in rehearsal and they didn't want to miss it from being on the show. Everyone thought that was fun/exciting while inside I had a mini-heart attack since i'm pretty anal about setting things up and got there early to strategically place everything correctly. But I learned you can't control everything, especially on live TV, and that everything works out in the end. Yay!

Nigella Bliss

I've always loved watching the cooking shows of Nigella Lawson because she is trés stylish, makes scrumptious and beautiful food, and I loved hearing her British accent. I haven't seen her cooking shows in a long time and apparently she's on Food TV with her new show, Nigella Feasts. I found out she just launched her online store Bliss which carries her beautiful collection of kitchen and serving ware. (Thanks Felicia!) Speaking at BlogHer in Chicago, July 27-29

Just wanted to let you know that I'll be in Chicago for the BlogHer Conference later this month from July 27-29. I'm very excited to be speaking on The Art of Crafts panel on Saturday, July 28 at 1:30-2:45pm with my fellow crafters, Kathy Cano Murillo of Crafty Chica, Kristin Roach of Craft Leftovers, and Amy Sedaris of I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence (but does she really need any intro?). All this will be moderated by the fabulous Leah Peterson and just know that in addition to crafty goodness, I'm sure we'll have lots of laughs!

Here's a bit about the session:

The CraftBlogging community is diverse and large, covering everything from scrapbooking to knitting to other handi-crafts. They use their online communities to collaborate, to provide critiques, to engage in commerce, and simply to learn. How do you find your piece of the CraftBlogosphere? And yes, we'll also talk crafts...our favorite solo and group projects. Leah Petersen moderates the conversation with Kathy Cano Murillo (aka Crafty Chica), Kristin Roach, Natalie Zee Drieu and Amy Sedaris.

Coquette says Bon Weekend!

It's been a crazy week for me recovering from Maker Faire. I had a blast meeting with all the crafters who came out and found out many of you read Coquette! Merci beaucoup! You can read the recaps on the CRAFT blog or check through my flickr photos to see what happened. I am in desperate need of a little R&R this weekend so Coquette will be back up in full swing on Tuesday next week. Have a great holiday weekend!

Something I'm really excited about is the launch of Stylehive's new Style Communites. I worked with them to get the Craftzine Community set up. (Thanks Stephanie!) If you're a member, take a look and join the Craftzine Community to get the latest craftzine news and crafty picks by moi!

Other things that are happening this Memorial Day weekend:

Fellow fashion blogger and friend Nichelle at 55 Secret Street and Anovelista will be on XM Radio on Cocoa Mode airing at 1pm EST (10am PST) and repeats Sunday at 1am EST (10pm EST). Yay Nichelle!

Bay Area fashionistas can take a visit to Hayes Valley in San Francisco on Sunday for the Capsule Design Festival where you can shop for Kris Nations jewelry at booth #66, as well as 140 other clothing and accessories designers. Hours are 11am - 6pm on Octavia between Fell and Hayes.

Maker Faire and this week on Coquette

Bonjour mon petites coquettes! I just wanted to let you know that this week is a crazy work week for me because we are preparing for our big event! The Maker Faire brought to you by MAKE and CRAFT magazines happens this weekend in San Mateo. I'll still be posting to Coquette but you may find that my daily posts happen later in the day than usual. Thanks for being patient with me!

Of course, you can always make sure to save the dates May 19-20 and come to the Maker Faire to say hi to me! I'll be working the CRAFT booth and workshop area. There will be lots of events for happening for everyone. You'll love shopping at Bazaar Bizarre, or bring some old clothes to swap and refashion at the Swap-O-Rama-Rama, or learn a new craft at our many CRAFT demos happening around the fair. Also don't miss the fashion show at 5pm on Saturday! That's not to be missed. Diana Eng will be coming again so I'll have plenty of coverage and photos on the CRAFT blog and will note anything cool here too.
