Michael Kors Spring 2008 Fashion Show

Michael Kors seems to be taking the reigns from Ralph Lauren as the King of classic American fashion. Sure these models look like the live in the Hamptons, but Kors gives us a taste for the modern high-life with his array of flowy gowns, cute tennis dresses, and cropped safari style jackets, belted of course. Plus all his handbags are drool worthy.

Key Looks: flowy gowns, shorts, safari style jackets, belted jackets and sweaters.
Key Colors: whites, lavender, pink, yellow, green, black.

Dahl by Alison Kelly Spring 2008 Fashion Show

Alisonkelly Blkcors
Alison Kelly the former Project Runway contestant from Season 3 debuted her Spring 2008 Dahl collection on the runways at Nolcha Fashion Week in NY which spotlighted the more up and coming designers we'll see more of in the future.

I was particularly drawn to Alison Kelly's collection because I always loved her fashionable style (sexy, modern, young) and I loved the idea of what inspired her collection.

"I dreamt of China in 1920, there was a woman sitting next to an elegantly dressed gentleman in an old Rolls Royce, she was the image of beauty, wearing a beautiful gown of sage green, jewels and lacquered hair. Her eminence comes to life in this collection.” says Kelly.

Here are a few more pieces from the Dahl by Alison Kelly Spring 2008 Fashion Show:

Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 Fashion Show

09.10.2007

Marc Jacobs had fun at his show reinterpreting looks from the different decades and eras in his spring 2008 collection. I loved the dresses and gowns from the show and these 20's style outfits above that followed the flowy dress trend of spring. Everyday dresses in black and white prints or floral patterns (one of the key themes) also had a nice long silky silouette. I also loved the cocktail dresses in layers of tulle for the 50's debutant and the sleek modern evening gowns.

Key Looks: flowy dresses, floral dresses, shorts, sheer fabrics and layers.
Key Colors: black, red, beige, purple, grey, and pastels.

Yellow was a major theme at the 3.1 Phillip Lim spring 2008 show. If you had any doubt that the yellow we saw this season was a passing fancy, Lim's show makes you realize it's versatility and panache in the series of dresses, jackets, tops, and accessories that were in this magical color. I also loved the detail flower overlays that adorned some of the tops in this decorative and bib like fashion.

Key Looks: cropped jackets, thin belted shorts, wide belts for dresses and skirts, cropped pants.
Key Colors: yellow, red, grey, beige, cream, white, and black.

Spring2008 Shorts1-1
For spring, the look of shorts in all sizes from short to long from casual to all dressed up graced the runways. Here are a few of my favorites. Pictured above is Doo.Ri and Catherine Malandrino.

From bright bold colors to applique-styled designs Catherine Malandrino's spring collection had everything in the details. From the ornate glass beads that decorated a neckline to the scalloped tiring of a dress, I just wanted to look at every outfit close up in this collection. Her eye for color is apparent here and I loved the mixing of colors such as a tan and black printed belt with a fuchsia top. The applique pieces were also exquisite mixing shapes, colors, and different fabric textures into a work of art. I also loved the classic styling of her black and white outfits -- crisp white wide leg pants tied with a black belt or flowy print dresses.

Key Looks: flowy dresses, bold prints and colors, skirts and pants tied with a belt, ornate shoulders and necklines.
Key Colors: classic black and white together. metalic silver. bright hues such as orange, fuchsia, green, and red.

Doo.Ri Spring 2008 Fashion Show

Doo.Ri Spring 2008 Fashion Show
09.07.2007

Doo.Ri took a more subdued color palette for spring with earth tones and metalics that warmed up the runway. I loved the beaded detail in some of the pieces like the dress above as well as the sheer fabrics that looked cool down the runway. Bubble dresses were still spotted but Doo.Ri's take on them with layers of tull annd coloring was such an interesting approach. I also loved how shorts looked dressed up and stylized with sheer tops or had a beachy feel with an off the shoulder cut. At the end of the day though, the key pieces to covet are the stylish short dresses that are perfect for any kind of party or night out.

Key Looks: sheer tops, shorts, flowy dresses, bubble dresses, and beaded details.
Key Colors: black, metalics, soft hues of brown, beige, and cream.

Fashion Week Spring 2008: The Look of Scarves

Spring2008 Scarves
The freshest accessory to have next spring is nothing more than a scarf that can be worn around over the head like a glamour gal (left) at Rag and Bone or tied loosely around the next (right) at Cynthia Rowley. I've always worn scarves and could not be happier to see more scarf looks down the runway.

Here's more scarf inspiration:

Long Scarves: Wear it around your head like a headband (Charlotte Ronson) or wrapped a few times and worn long around your neck (Cynthia Rowley).

Proenza Schouler Spring 2008 Fashion Show

09.07.2007

The Proenza Schouler spring show was decidedly darker in hue and it was refreshing twist from the typical light colors from other shows. With the underlying safari theme, I loved the rich texture to almost all of the fabrics which shimmered so well, like this black belted dress above. Almost everything was belted or tied around the waist in ingenious ways. What I wasn't in love with were some of the over poofy bubble skirts which was shown on the runway but I chose to just glaze over them. To me, the key piece to have from Proenza Schouler's spring collection will be the vest. I loved the short cropped ones that were layered over longer belted versions.

Key Looks: belted vests, bubble skirts, off the shoulder, and safari look.
Key Colors: white, black, brown, navy, mustard yellow, red, beige, gold metalic.

Cynthia Rowley Spring 2008 Fashion Show

09.07.2007

Cynthia Rowley always epitomized the word "girly" and with her new collection, Rowley adds "sophisticated" to the mix with her collection of flowy silky dresses that bring the 20's to mind. Loosely tied scarves at the neck accentuate some of the outfits and the waist gets proper accentuation this spring as well. Rowley suggests a sweater around the waist as another alternative to the standard belt. From rolled up baggy pants to big oversized shirts and tops, the 80's get a nod too with a nautical twist taking a navy stripes to a new level. Cute colored vintage bikes with straw baskets adorned the runway as models as well as Rowley herself, took to biking down the runway at the end of the show.

Key Looks: oversized and loose. long dresses, baggy pants, sweaters around the waist, scarves, nautical stripes, and pockets.
Key Colors: whites, navy, beige, pink, light blue, and yellow.
