Ok ladies, let's talk serums today. I'm a huge believer in them and anytime there's a new one from Clarins, I'm always up for trying it because it always seems to work. The new Clarins Mission Perfection Serum ($72, exclusively at Nordstrom) is a serum that helps target spots, reduce redness, dullness and shadows and helps create an natural, even skintone. I've been using it for almost two weeks now (morning and night) and have started to notice that my skin is looking more luminous on it's own now before I put anything on my face. The serum absorbs immediately into my skin and feels light. It leaves my skin soft and I also like the subtle, delicate scent.
The serum contains a new active ingredient, acerola extract which comes from wild cherries. This while cherry grows naturally in the forests of South America and the extract has powerful dark spot correcting action. It also has a high concentration of Vitamin C. Also in the serum is ginkgo biloba which helps protect microcirculation for a more radient complexion. Finally, tamarind fruit acids from East Africa is high in alpha hydroxyl acids to gently remove dead skin cells containing melanin. What's great is that the Mission Perfection Serum works for all skin tones and types.
I love this time of the summer because all the new Fall beauty is rolling out. First off, is NARS' new Fall 2015 Color Collection. It seems like each collection just gets better and this one is no different. For this collection, François Nars was inspired by the eyes. The collection includes 8 Velvet Shadow Sticks, 2 Dual-Intensity Eyeshadows, 2 lip glosses, 1 lipstick and 1 blush.
Be the first to try these beauties! The collection is available now online at narscosmetics.com and NARS boutiques. Find it at Sephora and department stores on August 1st.
Let's start with eyes. I am in LOVE with the Velvet Shadow Stick in the color Hollywoodland. It's a warm gold and it's very light. I have worn it also as a under eye liner and it completely brightens up my eyes. I love the look. The color combination of the Dual-Intensity Eye Shadow in Telesto ($29) with the Hollywoodland shadow is just gorgeous.
NARS always gets blush right. This new NARS blush in Tribulation ($30) is light and silky. It's a perfect shade to give yourself a warm summery glow. It's so flattering on, especially with all the other colors in the collection. Pick it up soon as this one is a limited edition.
Here are swatches of the Blush in Tribulation, The Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Telesto and The Velvet Shadow Stick in Hollywoodland.
Estee Lauder is getting into the cream blush trend and their new Estee Lauder Pure Color Blush Stick ($32 at Nordstrom) is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites. These cream blush sticks are limited edition and comes in 4 shades - Blushing Berry, Cheeky Rose, Peach Rush and Pink Crush. I have it in Peach Rush (swatch below) which gives me a pretty summery warm look on my cheeks. The sticks glide on easily on the skin and I love how sheer the blush is. For applying, I gently swipe some color on my cheeks. I like to use fingers to blend in the color, in as the warmth from my hands will get the cream to really absorb into my skin. I gently dab with my fingers over the apples of my cheeks to get a natural warmth. I'm not sure how long these will be around so make sure to try them out the next time you are at the Estee Lauder counter. You won't be disappointed!
A couple of weeks ago while at Whole Foods, I couldn't resist picking up another cocokind beauty product to try. I bought the cocokind Organic Rosewater Facial Toner ($16.99 at cocokind). What I love best is that it's a small spray bottle, perfect for travel and perfect to spritz your face when you need to feel refreshed. I love the light scent of roses (and my hubby does too). It reminds me of France -- just that soft smell of roses I love so much. It's not overpowering at all. Right now, I use it morning and night. At night, I spray this after I cleanse my face. This has replaced my SK-II Facial Essence Treatment which is just way too expensive a habit for me to keep up now.
To apply you can either spray it on a cotton pad or directly on your face. I like just spraying it on my face so I don't have product wasted in a cotton pad. I just close my eyes and do a couple spritzes over my face and then gently press it all into my face and neck with a gentle motion with my hands. I love that this is all natural and organic -- no chemicals at all! My skin feels way more hydrated than ever since using it for the last two weeks. At night I use the cocokind Repair Serum (see review here) after I spray on the tonic. It really helps to absorb the serum.
I've been going light with my makeup lately and wanted to share what I've been doing. For eyes, Estee Lauder's Instant Intense Eyeshadow in Beach Metals ($38 at Nordstrom) is one of my all time favs. It's my go to summer palette. I love bringing this on vacation as it's a really compact. I don't know why I even bother bringing other palettes because this will be the only one I end up using. I've had mine for two years now and just started to hit pan so I need to get myself another one soon. Why do I love this palette so much? First off, it really is a gorgeous palette that naturally enhances your eyes. It has just the right shimmer and the golden tones of muave and brown warm up my complexion. I like to add a light touch of brown eyeliner so the look stays light and fresh. If I'm on vacation and going out at night, I'll darken the eyeliner and add more of the brown shadow for dimension.
Here is a swatch of the Estee Lauder palette in natural light.
For lips, I'm really loving a natural nude look. (I just did a roundup for Natural Summer Lips on Racked SF that you can check out.) Currently, my favorite thing to do is to line my lips with Rimmel's Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses lipliner in 007 Rose Quartz ($3.97 on Amazon). I line my lips and then color my lips in. I have the Rimmel Exaggerate twist up liners but like the old fashioned pencil ones the best.
1. Women's Kendall & Kylie Madden Girl Poppyy Espadrille Flat ($49.95 at Nordstrom)
One of the shoes I've been living in this summer are these gold and black espadrilles. If you get over the fact that they are from Kendall & Kylie, you're golden. These shoes are so comfy, stylish and affordable. I had a black pair last summer that I wore to death so I actually bought another black pair this summer as well so I could rotate between these two pairs. (Also available in white and silver.)
2. Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer ($18 at Sephora) I've been wearing the Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer pretty much non-stop for two months now. I have the color Love Pop (13) which is a mid-tone shimmery raspberry. I love the pop of color it gives me and the primer really keeps the color going. My lips are soft and never get flaky. I love the price of these lipsticks and plan to get more! (See previous Coquette review post.)
3. REN Rosa Centifolia No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm 5.1 oz ($48 at Sephora)
I tried the Eve Lom balm and just couldn't stand the smell! This balm also comes with a muslin cloth. I use this every 2-3 days when I do my facial massage routine. It's especially good to get out stubborn eye makeup but I love the smoothness when I need to give myself an all over face massage. (See previous Coquette review post.)
4. Evolvh UltraShine Moisture Shampoo and Evolvh UltraShine Moisture Conditioner ($24 and $25 at Credo Beauty)
I haven't done a full review of the Evolvh organic haircare products yet but I have been using them exclusively for the past month. I wash my hair every other day and it no longer looks greasy by the end of the 2nd day. I love the fresh scent and that it really cleans your hair without adding extra stuff. This works for all hair types. If you are in SF, pick them up at the new natural/organic beauty store Credo where you can also purchase the sample size to try them out. I'm almost done with my sample size and am about to go buy the full size soon. The small sizes last and are perfect for when you're traveling. (See previous Coquette post on Credo Beauty.)
5. Cocokind Organic Facial Repair Serum ($13.99 at Cocokind)
I am sort of a serum addict and I love trying new ones, especially in the realm of natural and organic skincare. I picked this new to me brand up at Whole Foods and have since gone on to pick up their divine Rosewater Toner. The serum includes virgin coconut oil, organic avocado oil and organic rosehip oil. I have used it for the past month on these tiny white bumps on my 6 year old's face and now they are almost all gone. Believe in the miracle of coconut oil! (See previous Coquette review post.)
Whether or not you give into the whole Kardashian clan, you can't deny the cool style of model Kendall Jenner. As a new Estee Lauder girl, Kendall Jenner's favorite lipstick shade online only at Estee Lauder. Her Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Restless ($30) is an orange-red shade that will give a stylish dash of color to your summer beauty look. The lipsticks are limited edition so pick them up online before they are all gone.
2136 Fillmore Street
San Francisco, CA 94115
Credo Beauty is now open in San Francisco at 2136 Fillmore Street, next door to Marc by Marc Jacobs. I have a full gallery showcasing the interior and some of the products over at Racked SF.
Last Thursday, I attended the opening party and was floored by how beautiful and modern the green beauty boutique is. Everything laid out on the shelves beg for you to test them out and guess what? They are all made from natural or organic ingredients. I haven't totally gone green in my beauty routine but for the most part I am using a lot of organic skincare. Credo Beauty is really paving the way for all of us to learn more about using products that are better for us because it's not full of harsh chemicals.
You can try all of the products in the store and I like that there are sample sizes sold so you can take them home and see how they feel.
Right now, I'm kinda obsessed with Evolvh hair products. Finding an organic hair product has been at the top of my list and I'm so glad I had the chance to meet the founder Boris Oak at the opening party. Boris told me that these products are good for any hair type. I have sample sizes for their UltraShine Moisture Shampoo ($24), UltraShine Moisture Conditioner ($25), and the SuperFinish Polishing Balm ($32). I like that my hair feels clean (and smells great too) and it's not feeling dry or stripped. The Credo Store Manager told me that these are flying off the shelves and now I know why.
I also met the founder of Juice Beauty, Karen Behnke. She gave an overview of the line and I tested out a few products.
My favorite is their Stem Cellular CC Cream ($39). There are five different shades. I love how it feels on my skin. You can skip the notion of foundation and give yourself an even skintone while it protects with mineral SPF 30 and enriches your skin with antioxidants.
Let's talk makeup now. I received a sample of Armour Beauty's naturally-based lip gloss in my goodie bag. I had the Armour V in Audrey ($24) a vegan, paraban-free and completely cruelty-free lip gloss. The Audrey color is just what I love wearing - an everyday mauve color.
The Tata Harper Spa is just gorgeous and I'm looking forward to trying out a facial there one day as well as just browsing around the store more to try new products. I'll report back here of course on my natural beauty favorites!
Yesterday while grocery shopping at Whole Foods, I came across a sample table for the cocokind organic skincare brand. The founder, Priscilla Tsai was there and showed me the array of products. (I didn't realize she was the founder until I came across their web site last night). She pumped some of the cocokind organic facial repair serum ($13.99) on my hand and my skin just felt amazing after. The ingredients include organic virgin coconut oil, organic avocado oil and organic rosehip oil. These ingredients contain essential fatty acids that help repair your skin as well as moisturizes. The antioxidants heal damaged skin, including helping scars and age spots. There's a link here on their website that talks more about the details of their ingredients and why they are good for your skin.
You can use it twice a day under your moisturizer. I started using it last night and also this morning and my skin has been feeling great with it!
Also, the company is socially conscious and they donate proceeds to give clean water, food and education to children in need supporting several nonprofits including No Kid Hungry and SF Marin Food Bank.
I'm looking forward to trying more of the products from cocokind now that I know they are available at Whole Foods.
