I love t-shirts with French sayings on them and these Zara Girls' T-shirt with Embroidery ($16.90) are adorable with their ruffled ribbon embroidery on top of a subtle metallic dot pattern. It's much more luxe looking in person and the price is just perfect for kids clothes.
Chloe wore her Mon Ami t-shirt today to school, paired with leggings and a gray ruffled Le Petit Bateau skirt. The look is chic, yet easy and comfortable for girls to wear.
I have always enjoyed my leisure time in France watching how stylish French kids and moms are on the playground or around town. Now two French moms have brought their Paris fashion talents together to create the brand, les petits carreaux.
Alice Shamreiz lives in Paris and designs the line while Stephanie Ross lives in the East Bay, CA. Their Spring/Summer 2014 collection is now available online and I adore the details from flowery prints to delicate pintucks. The clothing line is catered to boys and girls from 4 - 12 years old and features quality fabrics and tailoring that ensures the best comfort for your little ones. Pictured above: On the girl: Amandine Dress ($95), On the boy: Axel Sweatshirt Denim ($80). The lespetits-carreaux.com site offers free shipping for orders over $150.
And don't miss their Valentine's Day Contest that's there's still time to enter. Kids can print out this paper and draw a balloon for a chance to win a free outfit. Deadline is friday 2/28/14. Details are here.
Here are more of my favorites from the les petits carreaux S/S 14 collection:

Light up shoes seem to be a staple in kids wardrobes. Chloe's school allows it but now some schools are not allowing light up shoes. Or you may be like me and forget that your kid is wearing them when we go out for an afternoon at the movies. The Sketchers Kids Shuffles Lights ($46.99, comes in black or pink) features a handy on/off button at the strap. Perfect for the day at school or at the movies!
Kids need to keep warm and with the fall and winter weather coming up, I love the lightweight warmth and easy-to-wear functionality of fleece jackets. Mini Boden has them in cute colors and patterns that will make your little one look his or her best. The polka-dot fun of the girls' Hooded Teddy Zip Sweatshirt ($42 at bodenusa.com) and the stunning colorblock of the boys' Two-in-one Sherpa Zip Sweatshirt ($54 at bodenusa.com) are two of my favorites.
Nordstrom Rack at 555 Ninth Street in San Francisco is now stocked with plenty of kids clothes! (For you new moms, there are lots of baby clothes too.) The folks at Nordstrom were nice enough to give me a $150 gift card to shop and check out all the cool kids' goods. A few days ago, my little fashionista Chloe and I took a shopping trip over to get her some new clothes for Back to School. Pictured above are the items we picked out together. She had a lot of input on what she wanted and we had a lot of fun. There was so much to choose from with lots of brand names you know and love.

My girl probably grew about an inch or more this summer so we needed to stock up on jeans. We got two pairs in one of my favorite kids brands, Tractor. They make the best pants. I got a dark jean color and a floral pattern for her. These retail for $50 and over and we snagged them for just $29.97 and $23.97. I loved the colored jeggings by Joe's Jeans so we picked up a pair in Magenta for only $19.97 (regular $48). Let me tell you, this is going to be my go to place to pick up new pairs of pants. I don't have to wait for the anniversary sale and they have all the pants that are in fashion so I don't have to skimp on quality.
Hello Kitty cuteness was on display as well as sparkly tutus.
There were also lots of great clothes for boys. I love these striped Hurley hoodies – a staple for our foggy SF weather. I didn't get any photos of it but there were some great North Face fleece jackets for boys and girls floating around the section, mostly in toddler sizes.
You can't go back to school without a backpack, right? There were plenty of backpacks and mini-backpacks that were about $30 and under.
If you're a new mom and not yet ready for back to school, you'll enjoy the array of baby clothes that you can pick up. It made me nostalgic for the days when I could simply pick whatever outfit I wanted to for Chloe.
And if you are lucky enough to have some alone time to go sans kids, the handbag section is packed with some cute bags from Michael Kors, Rebecca Minkoff and more. Chloe didn't have the patience for me to look at my things so I'll have to go back by myself another day.
Shopping at Nordstrom Rack's kids' department was a breeze. Back to School shopping should always be this easy. Plus it's great to have free parking to shop somewhere in SF!
Disclaimer: Nordstrom provided me with at $150 gift card to review the shopping experience in this post.
Stephanie Lau from All About Ami doesn't just crochet cute amigurumi animals. She's also a very fashionable new mom to six month old Myla. I became friends with this Canadian beauty a few years ago when I was an editor at CRAFT and she did her first published pattern, this crochet spring bunny. I have been loving her recent blog post on her nursing fashion tips so I decided to do an interview with Stephanie on how she stays so stylish and fashionable as a new mom.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I would describe my fashion style as classic and feminine. I love wearing dresses and romantic pieces such as delicate crocheted shawls and items with ruffles and lace. With that being said, comfort is also key for me, and I enjoy layering different pieces together (such as my chambray tops and oversized sweaters), which is key to surviving the Canadian winter! I also love accessorizing as I feel that accessories really help pull an outfit together. I'll usually sport my stud earrings, a necklace and a stack of bracelets when going out! I loved accessorizing from a young age as I have pictures of myself as a toddler wearing chunky beaded necklaces and bracelets with little clips in my hair!
The first few months post-pregnancy is probably the most fashion challenging for a new mom. What was your solution to looking great?
I remember my "What to Bring to the Hospital" pamphlet stated to bring a going-home outfit that would fit you when you were 5 months pregnant… And so, I knew to expect to continue to look somewhat pregnant for a little while even after the baby was delivered! I definitely did not fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans and most of my bottoms, so I continued to wear what I wore when I was pregnant (flawy tops and leggings)! This turned out to be a little more challenging as well since I was also nursing. Now all of my outfits had to be breast-feeding friendly, particularly since newborns feed so frequently! I layered pretty cardigans, oversized sweaters and blazers over my nursing tank tops to continue looking stylish post-pregnancy!
What 3 pieces of clothing could you not live without?
I could not live without my jeans, my leggings and my little black dress.
When you were pregnant, what maternity pieces did you live in?
When I was pregnant, I lived in my leggings, long tunics, maternity jeans and maxi dresses. I continued to accessorize a lot and I also belted my outfits to help give some definition and to make them look more polished. I had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to style my ever-growing baby bump!
What are some of Myla's favorite things?
Myla absolutely loves her pink bouncer- she enjoys sitting in it and taking in her surroundings. She likes it even more than her swing or any other baby item! She also has a little ribbon tug blanket that she loves playing with: this minky blanket has ribbons of varying textures along the edges that she enjoys feeling and tugging! Myla loves it when I sing songs and read books to her as well. She especially likes books that have songs associated with them, such as "Five Little Monkeys" and "Ten in the Bed"- it's really cute because she vocalizes along when I read and sing to her!
You are also a very crafty mom. How does crafting/crochet play into your life as a working mom?
I am currently on maternity leave, and I am really enjoying my time with Myla. Everyday we have story time, song time and floor time. Myla is so inquisitive and curious. She enjoys watching me do everything, from washing the dishes, preparing meals, to doing my hair! It's definitely been more challenging finding time to craft, crochet and finish projects, but thankfully Myla actually enjoys watching me crochet. I think she likes seeing the yarn and crochet hook moving so quickly! However, I do most of my crafting when she is napping or at night when she is sleeping. I continue to enjoy crocheting items for Myla and designing new projects. Crocheting is so therapeutic for me, and the blog motivates me to keep being creative and working on new projects!
UNIQLO has partnered with famed Parisian patisserie company Maison Ladurée, to create a t- shirt collection for a cause, featuring playful "Les Amis de Ladurée” graphics with 9 styles for kids and 10 for women. A portion of the sales will be donated to IVY, a nonprofit organization helping children in the Tohoku region of Northeast Japan, which was severely affected by the 2011 earthquake disaster. Pictured above are 3 cute designs for girls: T-shirt with Macarons and Eiffel Tower (in mint and navy), Jour de Chance T-shirt (in white and purple), Stripe T-shirt with Kitty (in pink or green stripe). Each kids t-shirt retails for $12.90.
For women, choose from a selection of adorable prints. I love this Laduree Short Puff Sleeve T-shirt in green and this Laduree Print T-shirt in white or pink. All women's t-shirts are $19.90 each. The collection launched this week at all UNIQLO retail locations and also online.
BonLook has launched a stylish kids collection of sunglasses in collaboration with Bleu Bird and Love Taza. These stylish sunnies come in classic and fun styles like they popped off the runway and shrank down into little mini me versions. Each pair of sunnies are only $39.
