Only in Paris and only at the luxe restaurant Le Cinq will they put your handbags on a tiny pedestal next to your chair. In our last night in Paris, we had dinner with our friends Amy of Ms. Glaze's Pommes D'Amour and her husband Eric. Amy proceeded to put her purse down on the carpet. Nothing unusual about that as most of us have done that millions of time. But this wasn't a usual night. Out of nowhere a waiter came out, picked up her handbag and placed it on a tiny pedestal that in a blink of an eye appeared next to her chair. These people were good. We felt like queens for the night. I could definitely get used to that kind of treatment. I of course joined in and placed mine next to hers for effect in this picture.
I am still jet-lagged and can barely stay awake now so please read Amy's story of our dinner. She is THE culinary expert and it was a treat to have her explain to us some of the subtleties that go into making some of the exquisite dishes. We had dinner from 9pm to 1:30am! The food and wine just kept flowing.
Now its back to reality in SF. I know from now on whenever I'm about to place my handbag down on the floor in a restaurant, I'll still be thinking of that little pedestal back in Paris...
