I just started reading this book, Words in a French Life: Lessons in Love and Language from the South of France by Kristin Espinasse. The book is actually excerpts from Kristin's very successful blog, French Word-A-Day. It is a great way for anyone trying to learn French to start reading and learning new vocabulary without completely reading French. Basically she writes in english and interjects in French words, phrases, or conversation. Most of Kristin's stories are so funny, either her children making fun of her or her trying to get something done around town. Her observations are uncanny. What I love about her is that she really teaches you expressions that are really used so you not only get the much needed vocabulary but different ways in which to use it. I signed up for her newsletter too which sends the posts directly to your inbox. She updates it about three times a week and its a great way to start the day learning new french vocabulary and expressions. The added pronunciation of words by her son Max is an added cute plus. But get the book too! It is a great way to have a portable compendium to take with you on vacation or read on the train to work, as well as to help support such a smart woman!
