For a great international movie, don't miss "The Science of Sleep" by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Bjork videos). The movie is about Gael Garia Bernal as a French-Mexican who moves back to Paris after his father dies, only to find himself diving deeper into his imaginary sleep world that is filled with wonder and excitement. Charlotte Gainsbourg is his neighbor who he falls in love with. Pictured above they are trying out the mind reading machine he invented.
If you like quirky, funny, movies that make you laugh while stirring your heart, don't miss this one. Besides it takes place in Paris and what can be better. The movie is primarily in English, but with a bit of French as well. The two leads jump from English to french in a nice and mostlly funny flow, thanks mostly to Gael Garcia Bernal.
I love the sleep world that is created because it's made up of yarn, cardboard, candy wrappers, pollyfill, etc, to make up this little crafty oasis.
In one sequence, Charlotte is knitting an amazing blanket with this machine while there are lots of amazing plushies of ordinary objects and a animated animal quilt in a cave.
