One of the great things about this time of summer is all the sales that happen before the fall season. I love the flirty 20's shape and it's a great dress to wear to a wedding or dinner out.

Posh is Coming to America Tonight

I can't wait to watch the new reality TV show, "Victoria Beckham Coming to America" which debuts tonight on NBC at 8pm EST/PST. I'm kinda fascinated at what she'll be like, (even though reality TV is fake as my husband reminds me). The Beckams are just so famous in the UK, I'm wondering how she'll fare over here. With her new fashion line DVB in hand and the upcoming Spice Girls reunion, it will be fun to see what crazy things come up, i.e. she's horrified when she gets pulled over by a cop that she's wearing flat shoes. Word on the street in LA was that her publicist would tip the paparazzi as to where she'll be so she'd have lots of attention just like she did back in London. Whatever happens, it will sure be entertaining since there's nothing to watch on TV this summer.

Nigella Bliss

I've always loved watching the cooking shows of Nigella Lawson because she is trés stylish, makes scrumptious and beautiful food, and I loved hearing her British accent. I haven't seen her cooking shows in a long time and apparently she's on Food TV with her new show, Nigella Feasts. I found out she just launched her online store Bliss which carries her beautiful collection of kitchen and serving ware. (Thanks Felicia!) Crafts + Fashion Meet

In today's Thursday Styles section of the NY Times is a great article "The Knitting Circle Shows Its Chic" by Ruth La Ferla about the new wave of hip young crafters and our fashion savvyness. Turns out crafters are not only inspired by fashion designers, but fashion designers are also getting inspired by crafters. Who knew that fashion designer Marc Jacobs was inspired by the quilts of Gee's Bend in his spring 2007 collection?! Love it!

Haute Couture and the Supermodels

I have to agree with Blogdorf Goodman that it was a breath of fresh fashion air to see the Supermodels once again rocking the runway at John Galliano's Christian Dior Haute Couture collection (via Style.com). I too stopped my Vogue and Harper's Bazaar subscriptions because it was all about celebrities plugging their next movie. Linda Evangelista and the other fashion models just have presence. Fashion has lost it's glamour in the magazines but it was on full display with the ornate and exaggerated, over-the-top details Galliano created for the Christian Dior Haute Couture collection. Lots of ball gowns and dresses that were simply stunning. Some say Haute Couture is dead. I say, please no! Sure only a handful of select women could ever afford it but Haute Couture isn't about affordable fashion. It's design. It's style. It's art.

Here's to hoping we can see more of our favorite models Linda, Naomi, Amber, Shalom, Helena, and Karen on the cover of a fashion magazine soon. Or at the very least, a new wave of models will come (with personality) and re-inspire the fashion world again.

Speaking at BlogHer in Chicago, July 27-29

Just wanted to let you know that I'll be in Chicago for the BlogHer Conference later this month from July 27-29. I'm very excited to be speaking on The Art of Crafts panel on Saturday, July 28 at 1:30-2:45pm with my fellow crafters, Kathy Cano Murillo of Crafty Chica, Kristin Roach of Craft Leftovers, and Amy Sedaris of I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence (but does she really need any intro?). All this will be moderated by the fabulous Leah Peterson and just know that in addition to crafty goodness, I'm sure we'll have lots of laughs!

Here's a bit about the session:

The CraftBlogging community is diverse and large, covering everything from scrapbooking to knitting to other handi-crafts. They use their online communities to collaborate, to provide critiques, to engage in commerce, and simply to learn. How do you find your piece of the CraftBlogosphere? And yes, we'll also talk crafts...our favorite solo and group projects. Leah Petersen moderates the conversation with Kathy Cano Murillo (aka Crafty Chica), Kristin Roach, Natalie Zee Drieu and Amy Sedaris.
