I was a little surprised by last night's Project Runway 5 season opener that there wasn't more creativity to the grocery store challenge. First off, this is SEASON 5 people. If you don't know by now that it's all about being different and creative, then I don't know what to say. The amount of tablecloths that went down the runway was surely disappointing. Even fashion students at RISD know how to shake up a better challenge than that! (See my photos from a visit in 2006.) My favorites through were Daniel's plastic cup dress and Kenley's dress from a dodge ball and lawn chairs. Kelli's winning dress didn't do it for me as I love the skirt part of the dress but not the top part at all. The coffee filters looked so flat against the model.
So far, I've got my eye on a few designers already who show sparks of creativity and potential brilliance -- Daniel, Jerell, Joe, Kelli, Kenley, and Leanne. It's too early for me to tell who will be the front runner just yet...I'll need to see their work when it comes to the clothing challenges!
Leanne is the designer of Leanimal who I've previously written about here on Coquette.
For the designer with the personal style I love the most, it's definitely Kenley.
