I took a visit recently to the Burberry Beauty counter at Nordstrom to see what new things they had in store. Nordstrom is the only department store to carry Burberry beauty products outside of a Burberry boutique. I knew only that I wanted a new brown eyeshadow palette but I left of course with so much more. Burberry's beauty products are wonderful in that they really work to enhance natural beauty. They have the most wonderful range of nude colors and the eyeshadow is some of the most finely milled eyeshadow powder I have ever used. I also loved that now there were quads available as they only had single eyeshadows when the beauty line first launched.
I picked up the Burberry Beauty Complete Eye Palette in 02 Mocha ($60 at Nordstrom). I couldn't believe how well the colors all blended together. The look is so soft and you can even go softer/barely there. The shadows I picked were matte because I really wanted to get a natural palette with shades of brown that were good for everyday. You can wear the shadows dry or wet for a more dramatic look. I can use all 4 colors layered on my eyes and it gives me such a natural pop, I can't even believe it.
Here is a swatch of all the colors in the 02 Mocha palette on my arm (no flash, indoor sunlight).
The eyeshadow palette comes in its signature plaid metallic case that feels very luxurious. It also has a velvet pouch (also in plaid) and comes with 3 different brushes. The brushes all have their own pockets inside the pouch. This little palette is so perfect for when I travel now!
I picked up a lot of gray and black sweaters while in Paris this summer so I wanted to bring in some grays to my makeup without getting too dark and smokey. The makeup artist recommend I add a soft layer of gray over the existing brown shades of the quad. I purchased the Burberry Beauty 'Nude Glow' Sheer Eyeshadow in 17 gray ($29 at Nordstrom). It's such a pretty color. I just use my MAC 217 Blending Brush to gently dab it on over the middle of my eyelid after I finished doing my eyes with the quad. The color gives it just the right subtle warmth of gray. I really like this new to me technique for layering in another color.
To softly line my eyes, the Burberry makeup artist use the Burberry Beauty 'Eye Definer' Eye Shaping Pencil in 02 Midnight Brown ($29). I really liked how soft I could get the line and it didn't pull my eyelid. I actually came back the next day to buy this after using my regular brown eyeliner pencil and not liking the results. I love liquid eyeliner but sometimes you want a softer look. This pencil really lets you achieve it. It also comes with it's own sharpener too.
For lips, I wanted a soft nude look but with more of a rose tone. I have the Burberry 04 Rosewood lipstick and 04 Blush gloss at home already so I decided to try the Burberry Beauty 'Lip Cover' Soft Satin Lipstick in 09 Blush. I also paired it with the Burberry Beauty Lip Definer Pencil in 03 Sepia ($30 at Nordstrom). (The lipliner also comes with a sharpener, just like the eyeliner.) I'm not one to always line my lips but the Burberry pencils define your lips really well, yet move on softly over your lips. I have found that it's made my lip color last longer and can help me mix colors better between lipsticks an glosses.
You can see how the colors look in my swatch here. The top line is the lipliner, then the lipstick in 09 Blush, followed by the 04 Rosewood. The Blush color has more pink in it which brings some vibrant color to my face.
I love Burberry glosses so I got the coral hued Burberry Beauty 'Lip Glow' Natural Lip Gloss in 08 Cameo. I love, love, love this gloss! It's not sticky at all. I had actually wanted to get one of the new Chanel glosses but when I tried them on, they were way too sticky for my lips. These Burberry glosses just feel amazing!
Overall, I am really enjoying the Burberry beauty products. I have been using at least one of these everyday since I bought them. The lipliner has been my biggest surprise as I have found myself using it a lot where previously I had never used lipliner on a daily basis. The makeup artist totally convinced me and she was right! The Sepia color is such a great nude color and it works well for any color lipstick. I wear it with my AERIN Beauty 'Rose Balm' Lipstick in Geranium all the time. I liked their Nude Glow foundation but I didn't purchase it as I am totally in love with my Estee Lauder Perfectionist foundation. Burberry Beauty does a great job with it's luxe packaging and the quality is right up there. The quality of the makeup is along the lines of Dolce & Gabanna and YSL. If you have a Nordstrom near you, I definitely recommend you trying out some of their wonderful products.
