Recently I had the pleasure of visiting the new Dior Beauty Boutique at Valley Fair in Santa Clara (see my post here). The boutique is amazing for any beauty lover with makeup, skincare and fragrance – all on optium display. While I was there, I had my makeup done by the National Diorshow Artist Kevin Sifflet who taught me so many tips and tricks for skincare and beauty. These are tips I will take with me for the rest of my life! He opened up my eyes (literally) with his great tips for Asian eyes and he really gave me a natural look I wanted for the day that looked amazing. I will also add that the makeup lasted for me for the rest of the warm spring day too! Kevin travels all around for events but he's locally based so if you're in the Bay Area, you may catch him at the Valley Fair location on occasion. Everyone at the Dior Beauty boutique is expertly trained. I really recommend calling and making an appointment to have someone give you a makeover. First of all, it feels amazing to have someone do up your face and more importantly, you'll learn important makeup tips that are catered specifically to you.
These are the Dior products that Kevin used on me to achieve my natural summer look. I'll go through each of the products in this post. Sorry this will be a long one!
Kevin first cleaned and prepped my skin. He used Capture Totale Cream Riche ($165) and the Dior Prestige Eye Cream ($215) that comes with a gold spinning applicator (I want to get this one day! Watch the video on the page to see how it works.) Both of these really felt great on my skin. I am thinking about switching to it once I finish my current skincare. I don't have all the products he used on me but I did love the Capture Totale Multi-Perfection Refining Makeup Base Sunscreen SPF 25 ($55 at Dior.com). It's a great primer and feels so light on the skin. It protects your skin from the environmental pollution and UV rays with the SPF 25 and it also helps to smooth out and blur imperfections in the skin so it's such a wonderful base.
The Dior AirFlash Foundation ($62) is a spray foundation. This was my first time using it and it made my skin look amazing. Just more even overall and smooth. I have it in the color 201 Linen. I ended up purchasing the accompanying Dior Powder Brush #14 ($55) to use solely with this foundation. This brush is for light coverage so if you want a fuller coverage you can check out all of the Dior brushes. Kevin's line on how to remember to use the foundation is "Shake it , Spray it , Buff it, Love it!" First, spray the foundation on the brush (not to far and not to close to the brush either). Then buff it into the face. Airflash is waterproof, sweat proof makeup and it did live up to that promise as it was a warm day in Silicon Valley that day and face still looked great at the end of the day.
To give my cheeks a healthy glow, Kevin used the new Dior Healthy Glow Radiance Powder in 002 Fresh Light ($56). Use a large angled brush like this Dior Blush Brush #16 ($52). Sweep in a "3" motion from your forehead to your cheek, then from your cheek to your jawbone. Kevin also used this on my eyes, yes my eyes! More on this later. It's amazing! Kevin says, "It has a bronze base with a subtle hint of pink to warm up your skin without actually darkening the skin. Its like a sheer watercolor version of a normal bronzer."
On my cheeks, he used Diorskin Rosy Glow in 001 Petal ($44). I freaked out a little because it looked so incredibly pink in the compact. In reality, Rosy Glow is a universal pink that adjusts to the pH level in your skin so it's different on everyone. For me, the color was a wonderful light pink that gave me just a healthy and natural looking glow. Love!
Now onto the eyes! Kevin used the same Diorskin Nude Air Glow Powder in 002 Fresh Light ($56) and used the Dior Eyeshadow Brush in #22 ($38). I had never used an angled eyeshadow brush like this before. He used a windshield wiper motion to brush it onto my eyelids. I couldn't believe how easy it was to add some depth and dimension to my eyes. This is a great technique for Asian eyes. It was amazing to see the subtle dimension. Because this Air Glow powder is like a sheer watercolor version of a normal bronzer, it works really great for the eyes. Kevin says, "I[This] is also perfect on the eyes for those with a monolid who don't like to wear dark shadow. If you don't have a crease, instead of creating one with shadow, just do a sheer glaze with this powder to enhance your natural eye shape."
Kevin then used the new Dior Backstage Eye Reviver Eye Palette ($62) in the 002. I love this palette so much and I know I'll get a lot of use out of it this summer. The colors are wonderful neutrals. Kevin used the lightest shade (first color on the left) to highlight under my eyelids and the darker chocolate brown shadow (2nd color from the right) on the outer top sides of my eyes and lastly, the dark brown liner color (at right) was used to line under my eyes.
For my eyes, Kevin used the Diorshow Maximizer Plumping Lash Primer ($29.50) to prime my lashes. But this is where it got interesting, because I'm Asian, my lashes tend to stick straight down. He recommended I use the Diorshow New Look Mascara ($29.50) to give my lashes more volume. He starts at the base of my lashes and does a little wiggling with the wand as he brushes up. The result is fuller lashes for Asian eyes! You can see that the Diorshow New Look Mascara ($29.50) has a shorter tube. The magic is in the brush and it's very flexible as Kevin demonstrates in the photo above. This brush gives you volume lash-by-lash. Make sure use the technique of wiggling it back and forth while you brush up the lashes to have the best effect.
On to brows, Kevin used the Dior Brow Styler ($29) in 001 Universal Brown. I'm lazy when it comes to doing my brows. I usually just brush them and go. But this brow styler is the best I have ever used. Kevin penciled it in very lightly and used the opposite brush end to blend it all in together. It made my brows more polished and I liked the soft powder texture of the brow styler.
The lips were soft and natural. Kevin used the new coral color of the Dior Addict Lip Glow ($33) which works with your own pH balance to create a complimentary coral lip shade. It really kept my lips hydrated too. To top it off, he used the Dior Addict Lip Maximizer ($33) in 001 Pink to give me a glossy finish. This lip gloss is enriched with collagen to keep lips looking plump all day!
That's it! The end result was a fresh, natural makeup look that is perfect for spring and summer! Make sure you make an appointment with any of the Dior makeup artists at Valley Fair at (408) 484-3089 if you are in the Bay Area. I've had my makeup done a lot and this was one of the best experiences for me by far. The Dior beauty boutique is such an exquisite place to enjoy beauty time for yourself!
