It's finally summer and kids can enjoy a virtual vacation with their favorite characters in the new app, Toca Life Vacation ($2.99, available for iOS, Android and Kindle) from Toca Boca. My daughter Chloe is a huge fan of the Toca Boca apps and was desperately waiting for this app to be released, having watched the trailer video over and over. Thanks to the folks at Toca Boca, she received a preview app and was immediately excited to explore the game. Intuitively, she knew exactly what to do with the game once she started. It does does not disappoint with it's vast interactive possibilities where kids are in control of their own game play. There are five locations in Toca Life Vacations accessible from the main "map" screen: Beach, Airport, Hotel, Sightseeing and the special Storage island where kids can dress up their characters. I love it's cast of diverse and adorable characters that kids can interact with. Again, I can't stress how much I love that Toca Boca games do not have any in app purchases -- always music to my ears!
Chloe's favorite place to go is the 3rd floor of the hotel because she loves that her characters are able to relax on the balcony outside. Characters can ride the elevator and have adventures outside of the hotel. Chloe likes to see how many characters she can stuff into the elevator. Kids can also record their play session which saves it to the tablet's or mobile phone's library for them to view again at a later time.
The beach is a fun place to visit with a boardwalk, vacation souvenirs and an island you can sail too. There's a green creature that lives there and you can even find the treasure chest.
The fun details aren't lost at all in this game. I love that at the airport, the characters can get a body scan. Sometimes there is a bad item found (like an aerosol can) and it's your job to discard it. The co-pilot dog is also too darn cute!
All in all, Toca Life Vacation is a perfect game for kids. I love the free game play and that there are always interactive gems and easter eggs to keep them entertained in this little vacation world. And moms, this is definitely one of the apps to have on your iPhone in case you need to keep your little ones occupied when you are out and about. It's definitely an app to have for long road trips or plane rides this summer!
